Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is the most respected and the premier investigation agency of India. A CBI officer always gets high respect from the entire society. Allegations of it being working under the influence of ruling politicians and as Supreme Court said being a cage parrot of the Union Government is apart, it still is the best investigating institution of India. There is hardly any days when you will not find any mention of the CBI in any national newspaper. It is because of the fact that this institution is investing almost all sensitive cases. Some of the recent examples are highly controversial Arushi murder mystery and Ishrat Jehan encounter case. There is no denying that it has not given result as expected in political cases like Taj Corridor, but still its charm among youths is not going to evaporate because of many well-known reasons.
I have come across many youths who are interested in becoming a CBI officer. Many emotional youngsters think that they need to eradicate corruption going around in the society, and they can directly contribute after becoming a CBI officer. In this article, we will see some ways through which one can join the CBI:
1. Senior Level CBI Officer: The senior level posts of the CBI are filled through deputation of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, and also through the promotion of internal CBI officers. It should be noted here that there is no personal cadre of CBI as an organization. And, hence it relies heavily on the IPS officers, and in extension the Home Ministry to the Government of India. Therefore, if you are looking forward to become a senior CBI officer, the first thing you may want to do is to appear in the UPSC Civil Services Exam. And, further to get a rank which can allow you to get the IPS. Home ministry keeps on asking state government to send some IPS officers on deputation to the CBI. Once becoming a CBI officer, IPS officers work in the department for at least four years. They also get three year extension. It must be mentioned here that they completely oversee an investigation of prominent.
2. CBI Inspector: This post is the face of the institution. CBI inspector remains in the limelight; however they are completely avoided by the media. It is the CBI inspectors who conduct raids by leading a team. However, they work on the instruction of their superiors, an IPS officer. It means to say that a CBI inspector can even raid the premises of IAS, IPS, IRS, businessmen and politicians, among other high profile people. If you want to become a CBI inspector, you need to crack the SSC Graduate Level Exam (conducted yearly by the SSC), and give CBI inspector as an option. This is the only way through which you can become a CBI inspector. The SSC CGL exam is a tough one, and you need to have strong grip on General Studies, Reasoning, English and Quantitative Aptitude, among others.
3. Clerk and Low Level employees: SSC also recruits Low Level Clerk for CBI. Apart from that, CBI also comes with recruitment notification.
4. CBI for Engineers: CBI needs high profile engineers because they need to match the technology of the contemporary times to crack a case. It comes with recruitment notification for engineers/programmers. Engineers having degree with Computer Science and Information Technology, apart from MCA can apply for this.
