Wife of Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Atal Bihari Vajpayee is widely regarded as the best Prime Minister of India. Only Jawahar Lal Nehru can match what he has done for India in comparatively short period of time (6 years as compared to 17 years by Late Nehru). He is also considered as the Bhisma Pitamah of contemporary Indian politics. It is not easy to digest the fact that a BJP leader with strong link with RSS is accepted and respected by Indians of all religions and regions. Modi Government recognized his contributions to the nation and conferred Bharat Ratna to him, which President Pranab Mukerji presented him at his home (by breaking the standard protocol).

There is not a modicum of doubt in the fact that Vajpayee is currently one of the most popular political leaders of India. It doesn't matter for his followers that he is no more active in politics, and even physically he has become quite immobile (using wheel chair for movement). It would be interesting to see his opinion about Narendra Modi. Many political analysts believe that Vajpayee would have never allowed Modi to become what he is today. Unlike L K Advani, it is quite tough to disobey his wishes.

He is popular, yet people are not aware of his personal life. The text book is yet to add comprehensive materials about him. When he will die, people will realize who exactly he was – his roots and his personal life.

Family of Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born to Krishna Bihari Vajpayee and Krishna Devi in Gwalior. Yes, you heard it right. The name of both of the parents of Vajpayee ji was Krishna. His schooling was started from Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Gwalior. You may know that Saraswati Shishu Mandir is run by the RSS, and the decision of Krishna Vajpayee to send young Atal to this school changed India. Teachings at this school changed the perception of young Atal, and he became a member of RSS, and later entered politics with JanSangh.

Wife of Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Atal Bihari Vajapayee is a lifelong bachelor. He never married. Actually, it was his desire to work for the country as RSS pracharak compelled him to remain bachelor. It is said that when his yagyopaweet (a ritual in Hinduism which is necessary for male to get married) was going on, he eloped from the home. Though, he completed the rituals and still wears the sacred thread (janeu), he conveyed his will to the family. His father was quite adamant to get him married, but Atal didn't give consent.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee is bachelor, however he has a family. He adopted a girl and named her Namita. Vajpayee ji always loved Namita like his real father. When Namita came into contact with Ranjan Bhattacharya in 1977 then Atal Ji didn't impose his wish on the couple. He met Ranjan and gave his consent after short interview. However, Namita and Ranjan could marry only in 1983, six years after their first date. Atal Ji is also quite close to his granddaughter Niharika.

Relation with Rajkumari Kaul

There is lots of media reports about the relationship of Atal Bihari Vajpayee with Rajkumari Kaur. One thing is quite clear, as mentioned above, that Vajpayee remained a bachelor. But, there is quite confusion about his relationship with Rajkumari Kaul. You will be surprised to know that Rajkumari was the mother of Namita, the adopted daughter of Atal Ji. In fact, Rajkumari Kaul was seen with Atal ji constantly. It is not proper to write here that Namita is the biological daughter of Atal Ji. Rajkumari died in 2014 and the entire Vajpayee family was there at the funeral except Bharat Ratna Atal Ji.

Rajkumari Kaul and Atal ji were friend since their college days. They studied in the same college at Gwalior. Rajkumari got married with Prof. B. N. Kaul, who was the head of the department of the Philosophy Department at Ramjas College, Delhi University. Atal Ji and Mr. B. N. Kaul became friends because of Rajkumari. The sudden death of the professor left Rajkumari alone and she came closer to Atal Ji. She started to live with Atal Ji.
