A strong glass ceiling has been broken in the premier defense organization of India – DRDO. And, the woman who has done this is none other than a star woman scientist of DRDO Ms. J. Manjula.

J. Manjula has been appointed as Director General of a prominent cluster of DRDO namely, Electronics and Communication Systems.


She is the first woman Director General of DRDO cluster. It should be noted here that she was successfully heading Defense Avionics Research Establishment (DARE).
As a matter of fact, there are seven clusters of DRDO and all of them are headed by a Director General. These Director General



Educational Qualification

Ms. J. Manjula has done engineering from Osmania University with Electronics and Communication stream. She joined DRDO in Hyderabad just after completing her engineering degree. She worked in Hyderabad and got specialized in the field of Integrated E-Warfare. In fact, Ms. Manjula is considered as the best authority in India in the world of Electronic Warfare. She has always been an asset of DRDO.
She has also been awarded with many awards, including the scientist of the year award.



Engineering Achievements

There is long list of scientific work and research projects done by Ms. Manjula. Some of the prominent inventions are – High Power Radio Frequency Systems, Sophisticated Responsive Jammers, One of the world’s best Controller Software and a Complex but easy to use Fast Signal Acquisition Receiver. Many of her works are already included in various arms of Indian defense establishments.

Ms. Manjula was born in 1962 in Nellore district (Andhra Pradesh). Her father Mr. J. Sriramulu was a high school principal. He was well-known in the district and used to actively participate in social work. He ensured good education for Manjula who took admission in Osmania University which resulted in a gift for India in the form of a distinguished defense scientist.



She belongs to the prominent Reddy Caste of Andhra Pradesh.
