Bhim Sain Bassi: Profile, Wife and Family

Bhim Sain Bassi was a 1977 Batch IPS – Indian Police Services – Officer of AGUMT Cadre – Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories. He was considered as a maverick police officer who has performed duty with utmost probity and integrity. Unfortunately, at the end of his career, he had become a sort of pawn in the fight between Kejriwal led Delhi and Modi led Union Government.

For picking up fraudster Jitender Singh Tomar, he had been called by AAP as a senior BJP leader. That is the worst thing you can say about an officer. However, when it became quite clear that Bassi had successfully caught a fraudster who was the Law Minister, everyone became silent and started to look for another reason to abuse a person revered for professional integrity.

You can’t ignore the fact that it was B S Bassi who as an Additional DCP of New Delhi during 1984 Sikh riots had done really commendable jobs and saved thousands of innocent lives from Congress goons.

Post retirement, he was appointed as the UPSC Member. Unfortunately, this appointment is also ridiculed.

Profile of Bhim Sain Bassi

Bhim Sain Bassi was born in 1956 – 25th February in Delhi. His father was a Delhi Government employee and Bassi grew up in a two room small government quarter.
Basically, his family belongs to Dera Bassi village near Mohali, Punjab. That is why you see that surname – BASSI.

Bassi was considered quite a bright student from his school days. His father wanted him to become a doctor or engineer. However, Bassi was planning to become an IPS Officer. He took admission in Shri Ram College of Commerce for B.Com degree. After completion of his graduation, he wanted to appear in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, but at that time he was underage. He didn’t look for any job and decided to complete a Law degree while preparing for Civil Services.

If you take a look at Bassi’s date of birth and the year of his IPS batch, you will notice that he was only 21 when he had cracked the Civil Services Examination. In fact, Bassi is one of the youngest candidates to crack the UPSC Civil Services at the age of 21.
Bassi has always been known as ‘people’s man’ from the very first of his posting in Puducherry.

He had taken the command of Delhi Police at a time when his predecessor Mr. Niraj Kumar was severely criticized for insensitive handling of women related issues, particularly after infamous Jyoti Singh Pandey Rape Case – Nirbhaya.
