Keshav Bansal
hit the lime light when he became the youngest owner of an IPL team. Before this,
he was known in the Indian business world for being at director of the mobile
and computer manufacturer Intex Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. However, his IPL
foray makes him a household name in India.
Keshav Bansal is
the owner of Gujarat Lions, one of the two new IPL teams.
Narendra Bansal,
the father of Keshav, is the CMD of Intex Technologies. However, it will be
Keshav who will handle Gujarat Lions.
Actually, Keshav
was discussing about long term business, read sponsoring, relationship with the
BCCI. He had seen the leverage Micromax had got by sponsoring many cricket
series. At the meeting, a BCCI official told him about the upcoming auction of
two IPL teams which had become necessary because of the Lodha Committee report
and subsequent punishment to CSK and Rajasthan Royals. The clicked to Keshav
and he started the preparation. One fine morning, he went to the office of his
father and showed all power point presentations that he had made. Keshav says
that it took only 20 minutes for him to convince his father to go for auction.
The rest, as you know, is history.

Keshav is known
in the business circle for being down-to-earth person who never lose temper. His
style of management is participative, not authoritative. He took some of the

it was Keshav who decided to go for Farhan Akhtar, his favorite actor – not director.
Initially, the Bansal family was averse of this idea as they were always
targeting for lower middle class customer and Farhan Akhtar didn’t suit in
their scheme of things. However, Keshav remained adamant and persuaded his family.
They relented and that is how Farhan Akhtar became the brand ambassador of
Intex in 2010. That was also the first press conference of Keshav, when he was
only 20 years old.
The revenue of
Intex Technologies has reached to Rs. 4000 Crore in the last fiscal. That is a
sort of miracle. And, much of the credit must be given to Keshav. It should be
noted here that Bansal family used to run a small business of audio and video
cassette.
