Husband of Medha Patkar

Medha Patkar is one of the most celebrated civil rights activists of India. She is widely respected for the lone battle that she has fought to stop the construction of the Narmada Dam, and for the rehabilitation of people because of this dam. She also fought the Lok Sabha election from North East, Mumbai on AAP ticket, and unfortunately lost badly (lost even deposit). Realizing the true nature of Arvind Kerjiwal, Medha has soon dissociated herself from AAP.

Profile and Family of Medha Patkar

Medha Patkar was born in Mumbai in 1954. Both of her parents were well-known social activists. Her father Vasant Khandolka was a freedom fighter, who later turned into a trade union leader after Indian’s independence. She has done M.A. in social work from TISS – Tata Institute of Social Sciences. After completing her education, she started to work in Mumbai slums and fought for the cause of slum dwellers.

There is quite a little information available on the Internet regarding the personal life of Medha Patkar. Who is her husband? Is she still single?

Well, Medha Patkar didn't enjoy a good personal life. After coming out of the TISS, she got married with Mr. Patkar (his first name is not known, surprisingly). Mr. Patkar is a Marathi Brahmin, and unfortunately was quite orthodox. She was not the wife Mr. Patkar or his family were expecting. They didn't like her going to the slums every day and fighting for small issues like drains. Moreover, Medha’s mother had taught her the importance of rejecting any jewelry. She loathed ornaments, which for the case of social status, was against the philosophy of her in-laws. Mr. Patkar parents compelled him to talk with Medha regarding all these issues. In an interview with Tehelka, Medha said that the main problem between them was lack of constructive dialogues. Neither of them was ready to take a back foot. They have quite a different understanding about sexuality and how a woman should behave. Unfortunately, they couldn't resolve the dialogue and decided to get separated. The divorce happened quite amicably.  

Both Medha and her husband didn't marry after divorce. They are also not having any offspring. Mr. Patkar tried to convince Medha, but she refused and told that now she is planning to give her entire life to poor. He name was also never linked up with any man.
