Awards and Recognition: Gupteshwar Pandey is known for controlling crime as SP of many districts in Bihar during Lalu Raj. He is also the man who has supported and implemented prohibition (daaru - bandi) in Bihar.

 Mr. Pandey had once resigned from the IPS to contest Lok Sabha election. He had joined the BJP. Unfortunately, Lal Muni Chaube prevailed upon Central leadership and retained ticket from Buxar. Mr. Pandey was again reinstated to IPS by the state government. 

 Mr. Pandey was also once interrogated by the CBI in the abduction and murder of a 12 year old Bengali girl in Muzaffarpur.
