Rajendra Kumar
is a 1989 batch IAS Officer. He is widely regarded for being an honest officer.
People who knows him are unable to digest the fact that an officer of his
caliber can be involved in a corruption. However, CBI while arresting him has
provided some proofs which are tough to be overlooked. It should also be noted
that in a surcharged political environment of Delhi, Rajendra Kumar has become
a sort of martyr. A small mistake from his side has led to his downfall.
Profile of Rajendra Kumar
Rajendra Kumar
was born and brought up in Bihar. He is a Kayastha by caste. He did schooling
from prestigious Netarhat School. In 1980 – 90, this school was the most
prestigious institution of Bihar. It went to Jharkhand after division. Netarhat
School has given thousands of Engineers and Civil Servants to this country.
After completing
schooling, Rajendra appeared in IIT JEE and cracked it. He took admission in
IIT – Kharagpur for B. Tech (Electrical Engineering) in 1985. It should be
noted that Arvind Kejriwal had also taken admission in IIT – Kharagpur in 1985.
Both of them are friends from their school days. Rajendra Kumar was also the
first who had wished Kejriwal in his home after spectacular performance of AAP.
It should be noted that Rajendra Kumar, though considered a very efficient
officer, had worked for AAP during election against the Civil Services Conduct
Rules.
After completing
B. Tech, Rajendra appeared in UPSC Civil Services Examination and cracked it in
his very first attempt. He did that in 1989. In those days, Upper Castes from Bihar
used to crack Civil Services easily and the ratio came down only after
implementation of Mandal Commission.
Rajendra Kumar
worked tirelessly and made a special mark in the history of Indian Civil
Service. His work regarding e-Governance is really amazing. Many organizations
have noted his work and he was also awarded with PM Award for Excellence in
Public Administration in 2008 for his e-Governance projects.
Is Rajendra Kumar Corrupt?
Ashish Joshi, a
Civil Servant, was humiliated by Arvind Kejriwal. He was sacked for chewing
Gutkha and smoking Cigar. Well, that should not be a ground for sacking
someone, if the officer is not doing that in public place. For whatever reasons,
Kejriwal humiliated him with the help of Rajendra Kumar.
Ashish decided
to do something against them. He worked hard and unearthed this scam. Ashok
Kumar, another alumni of Netarhat School, is quite close to Rajendra Kumar. It
is said that Ashok Kumar was given contract by Rajendra.
Ashok had
resigned from the service of Delhi government in 2009 and started a company
with some of his school friends. All of them were close to Rajendra Kumar for
obvious reasons.
Only time will
tell whether Rajendra Kumar is honest or not, but as of now, it seems he had broken
the rule. He should have remembered the advise of Shantanam Committee regarding
Corruption.
Transparency International Warning
Arvind Kejriwal had always cited various reports and warning of Transparency International to further his claims of ongoing corruption in various departments and persons. However, after becoming the Chief Minister, he just ignored warning of Transparency International regarding Rajender Kumar. TI had clearly flagged Rajender and had given proof to Kejriwal.

It should also
be noted here that both Arvind Kejriwal and Rajendra Kumar had humiliated an
old lady – IAS Officer Shakuntala Gamlin.
Further,
Rajendra Kumar was secretary of Transport department during the Commonwealth
Games. Initially, Arvind Kejriwal used to say that lots of corruption has
happened in the Transport department during that phase in buying low floor
buses. However, he became silent once Rajendra Kumar came into the picture.
Rajendra Kumar's wife Nandini Sahay is also seems to be in this mud of corruption. Her cousin Pratibha Sahay is a director in one of many companies formed by Ashok Kumar.
