Natarajan
Chardrasekaran is the Chairman of Tata Sons, India’s most reputed business
conglomerate having interests in varied sectors. He had replaced interim
Chairman Ratan Tata. He was previously the CEO of India’s biggest software
consultancy firm TCS, which is also called the blue eye of Tata Group because
of huge profits it generates.

Chandrasekaran, popularly known as Chandra, had become CEO of TCS in 2009. Under
his command TCS reached new heights and replaced Infosys as the biggest
software consultancy firm of India. He was
among the youngest CEOs of Tata Group. Similarly, his elevation as the Chairman
of Tata Sons is nothing short of miraculous. It is also not going to be an easy
job as he has to steer the Tata from its biggest leadership problems. Cyrus
Mistry and Ratan Tata open fight has mired the reputation of the company like
never before.

Chandrasekaran was born in 1963 in an orthodox Tamil Brahmin family in Mohanur.
His father Mr. Srinivasan Natarajan was a farmer. Even, Chandrasekaran tried
his hand at farming for few months before realizing that it is not something he
can do. After that, he started to concentrate on education.
Chandra did
schooling from Namakkal and later took admission in the prestigious Coimbatore
Institute of Technology from where he completed B. Sc. in Applied Sciences.
Later, he went to Regional Engineering College, Trichy (Now, National Institute
of Technology, Trichy) to do Masters in Computer Application (MCA). He joined
Tata Consultancy Services in 1987. Since then, he remained with TCS and was
known a person having penchant for innovation and re-invention. Whether working
as software developer or later as a business executive, his approach remained
the same – to follow the culture of customer centricity and aim for long term
relationship with customers.
In his career,
he got hundreds of prestigious awards and recognition. He was appointed
director by RBI on its board. He has also got many ‘Best CEO’ awards. He has
plethora of honorary degrees and has also served as the Chairman of NASSCOM in
2012.

Chandra is
married to Lalitha. The couple has only son named Pranav Chandrasekaran. They
are living in Mumbai in their lavish sea facing apartment named Sagar Darshan.

Chandrasekaran is said to be the son in law of S. Ramadorai. Many people
alleged that Ramadorai promoted him out of turn just because of this
relationship. However, seeing the growth TCS achieved under the leadership of
N. Chandra, one can safely say that Ramadorai had recommended a gem as his
successor.
