Mangal Pandey, BJP: Profile, Family, Wife and Bio

Mangal Pandey is the Health Minister to the Government of Bihar. He has been chosen by Nitish Kumar to head the important health ministry which was hitherto been messed up by Tej Pratap Yadav. He is a senior BJP leader and former state party president who was recently appointed as the in – charge of BJP in Himachal Pradesh. The election is going to happen in HP very soon and Amit Shah showed trust on him to ensure BJP returning back to the power. However, he will now have to leave that responsibility as all his time will be required to correct the faultlines developed in the health sector of Bihar.



Mangal Pandey is close to Sushil Modi who persuaded Amit Shah to let him become the minister.

Profile of Mangal Pandey

Mangal Pandey was born on 31st December, 1992 in Brighu Balia (Siwan district). His father Mr. Avadhesh Pandey is a renowned social worker and businessman. His mother Premlata Pandey was a homemaker who died in 2004.

Mangal Pandey started his education from his village. He also used to help his father in farming activities along with his elder brother. After completing matriculation from Maharajganj, he shifted to Patna. His father has opened a shop in the capital city. Mangal took admission in Devi Dayal High School, Kadamkuan from where he completed Intermediate Science. He started to take keen interest in politics while doing graduation from Magadh University. He was also a very good cricketer and had represented Patna district cricket team in Heman Trophy. However, politics became his priority and hence he discontinued playing cricket.

Mangal Pandey started his political career in 1989. Before this, he was associated with RSS and ABVP. Slowly and steadily, he rose in the party – first handling day to day affairs of BJYM in Bihar and later for the BJP. The culmination point came in 2014 when despite strong opposition from the sulking leader C P Thakur, he was made the state president. Under his presidency, the party performed splendidly in 2014 Lok Sabha Election. However, the dismal performance of NDA in 2015 dented his image and he was not given any extension.

Family of Mangal Pandey

Mangal Pandey got married to Urmila Pandey on 19th April, 1998. The couple has a son named Harsh Kumar Pandey who has studied from the prestigious St. Michael’s School, Patna and later to the Modern School, New Delhi. The family lives in Vijay Nagar, Patna. Actually, if you happen to go to Vijay Nagar (on the Kali Mandir Road, Hanuman Nagar), you will hardly notice that such a big state politician is residing here. Even people living in his lane (Deshratna Path, opposite Avantika Hospital, Vijay Nagar) were unaware of the fact that Mangal Pandey is also living in the same lane. Now, they all came to know because of the security personnel that the government has provided him.

Mangal Pandey is a down to earth person who has made a mark in the world of politics on his own, without taking support of anyone. He is a rare politician of Bihar with ultra clean image; there is not a single criminal case against him.

Caste of Mangal Pandey


There is little bit confusion about the caste of Mangal Pandey among people of Bihar. Actually, Pandey surname is used by both Brahmin and Bhumihar (two of four upper castes of Bihar). The famous Mangal Pandey of 1987 Sepoy Mutiny was a Bhumihar. If you got to Aurangabad, you will find Bhumihar with Pandey surname. That is why many people think that Mangal Pandey is also a Bhumihar. That is not true. He is a Brahmin by caste.
