Hyder Shahbaz Ali was a Wing Commander of Pakistan Air Force
(PAF). He had an engagement with Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan. Shahbaz was
flying F – 16 (Not, JF – 17 as claimed by Pakistan Army). He had entered the
Indian air space and had launched few missiles.
IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan locked Shahbaz’s F – 16 on his
radar and fired R – 73 missile. It hit the target. Shahbaz had to eject and
parachuted in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (or Aazad Kashmir if you use
terminology of Pakistan). He was badly injured with fractured spine. Locales
thought him to be an Indian Sikh officer. And, unfortunately, they lynched him.
It may be noted here that Abhinandan had also crossed the
LoC while chasing away Shahbaz’ F – 16. His MiG – 21 Bison was shot by Squadron
Leader Hasan Siddiqui.
Hyder Shahbaz Ali or Shahzaz Ud Din
Pakistan has never accepted that a PAF Wing Commander is
dead. Some news were leaked in the media where it was claimed that Shahzaz Ud
Din was the Squadron Leader who had died. However, it is now clear that it was
NOT Shahzaz, but Shabaz.
London based Pakistani lawyer Khalid Umer had made this
mistake. He was working on the story with meager information. He had to joined
many dots. He just made little bit of mistake with the name (which obviously is
a big mistake worthy of making entire story a fake news).
Hyder Shahbaz Ali was part of 19 Sq. Sherdils which is currently
based at Bholari, Sind. They were primarily used for training and aerobic
purposes. However, on the fateful day, the services of Sherdils were used for
short time air engagement with India.
